Master Rory Kyle has been involved in various stages of the martial arts for nearly three decades. His introduction to Tae Kwon Do began during his freshman year in high school after his father returned from Viet Nam. Like so many other members of the armed forces at that time, his father, who served in the United States Air Force, received orders to spend a tour of duty in Southeast Asia. While overseas, he earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Upon his return stateside, Master Kyle’s father decided to see whether his son had any interest in learning this martial art. Having grown up on watching martial art movies with such charismatic individuals as Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, it took little persuasion to peak his attention. Although Master Kyle already participated in several different high school athletics, he gladly made room in his schedule to become his father’s first pupil.
All throughout high school and college, he continued his studies in Tae Kwon Do, as well as cross training in other martial arts styles. However, it was not until he moved to Texas that he found the opportunity to fully devote his time to teaching self defense.
Master Kyle began as an assistant instructor in 1985 under the tutelage of his first Texas instructor, a ninth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, who encouraged and challenged him to become a full time instructor. In 1987, Master Kyle officially opened his self defense school, Lewisville Martial Arts Academy located in Lewisville, Texas, approximately fifteen miles north of Dallas. From that point on, he never looked back. While teaching, he also continued working on his own individual training and advancement. In 1992, Master Kyle earned his fifth degree black belt and his instructor bestowed him with the prestigious title of “Master” in Tae Kwon Do.
Throughout the sixteen+ years of successfully operating his academy, he has had the pleasure of literally working with thousands of students, promoting well over a hundred to the rank of black belt. Additionally, he has trained people from virtually all ages and walks of life, ranging from as young as four years old to over seventy years old. His oldest beginner was over sixty-five when she began taking classes with him.
Master Rory Kyle currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, where he remains a devoted martial artist and holds the rank of seventh degree black belt, along with advanced degrees in Jujitsu, Hapkido, and various different weapon systems. He continues to encourage others to take a closer look at the wide variety of benefits available through training in Tae Kwon Do.
